Datasets and Workbench
Datasets are where your analysis starts.
What a dataset is
A dataset is the file you upload to build charts and dashboards. Tabloy reads your file and prepares it for analysis.
Supported file types
CSVJSONXLSX/XLS
Before upload
To get better results in Build mode:
- Keep column names clear (
order_date,revenue,region) - Remove empty or duplicate columns
- Keep one business topic per file when possible
- Check that dates and numbers are formatted consistently
Upload step by step
- Open Datasets.
- Click Upload.
- Choose your file.
- Wait until Tabloy finishes processing.
- Find your file in the list.
- Click Set to make it active.
When the dataset is active, Build mode uses it by default.
Dataset list actions
- Set: choose the dataset for Build mode.
- View: open table preview.
- Star: mark as favorite.
- Delete: remove dataset you no longer need.
How to choose the right active dataset
Use Set when:
- you switch to a new report
- you need different business data
- AI answers look unrelated to your current task
If results look wrong, first check whether the correct dataset is active.
Workbench mode
Workbench helps you inspect data before building charts.
In Workbench you can:
- browse tables on the left side
- see column names before analysis
- preview real rows
- move through data pages
- quickly sanity-check values
Quick validation checklist
Before going to Build mode, confirm:
- table names look correct
- key columns exist (date, metric, category)
- values look realistic
- no obvious empty-data problem
Common mistakes
- Uploading the wrong version of a file
- Forgetting to press Set after upload
- Trying to analyze mixed topics in one large file
- Keeping technical columns that add noise to AI prompts
Good practice
- Keep one "clean" dataset per recurring report
- Use favorites for datasets you open often
- Delete old test files to keep workspace simple
